NOTE: Today is Veterans Day in the United States. In other countries it is called “Armistice Day” or “Remembrance Day”. It is celebrated in at least 20 different countries. It is a day to remember those men and women who died during World War One. It is also a day to remember those who died in subsequent wars and conflicts.

In the U.S. and in some other countries it is used to remember the service of those men and women who have served in the Armed Forces. In the United States, Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) is used to remember those men and women who have died in the service of their country. Please take a moment and remember those men and women who have died or who have served in military of your own nation.

In western democracies (and indeed, in most democracies around the world), the military is not above civilian authority and this is a good thing. They are not to be used to force illegitimate dictatorial regimes upon the people. They are there to protect the nation from aggressor nations. Thank your military members for keeping you safe from those who would do you harm if given the chance.
